An on-road cycle route to the Newdigate Village Day on Saturday 1 September 2007, returning via the villages of Leigh and Brockham. The route description below gives two alternative start points in Dorking. For abbreviations see end of route description.

Route from Dorking Station (A). Cycle along Station Approach to Deepdene Avenue (A24). TL on shared use pavement, taking care passing driveways to roundabout on A25. TL on pavement, cross at Toucan, and TL on pavement to junction with Punchbowl Lane. TR and continue up and over the hill to junction with Chart Lane South. TL and continue to junction with Red Lane (C).    5km/3mi

Route from Town Centre Post Office (B). Turn West on High Street to Pump Corner. Continue on South Street to Horsham Road and TL. Follow Horsham Road to Flint Hill and roundabout at North Holmwood. Either cycle straight across, or use underpass on LHS, to North Holmwood. Continue on Spook Hill and TL into Inholms Lane. Continue up hill past St.Johns church to junction with Blackbrook Road and TR. Continue to junction with Red Lane (C).    5km/3mi


Continue on Blackbrook Road/Henfold Lane for 6km/4mi following signs for Newdigate. At Newdigate (D) enter fairground either via Cricket Club on RHS at top of hill, or continue to junction, TR and continue to Kingsland. TR and enter via Village Hall on RHS.    10km/6mi

Leave fair via Parkgate Road, signposted Leigh. TL into Broad Lane, signposted Leigh/Brockham (E).    12km/7½mi

Follow Broad Lane, then Clayhill Road to junction with Newdigate Road. SA following Newdigate Road to junction with Bunce Common Road (F). TR.    16km/10mi

{Maybe an opportunity to stop for cricket and a cold drink at Leigh Cricket Club or continue around corner to the Seven Stars pub for refreshments}

At Seven Stars pub TL into Tapners Road. Continue on Tapners Road for approx. 2km to junction with Wellhouse Road on left hand side. (Route from Reigate joins here) (G).    18km/11mi

TL. Continue to junction with Wheelers Lane on right hand side. TR following Surrey Cycleway, into Brockham and junction with Middle Street (H).    21km/13mi

Ride down Middle Street (towards River Mole) to junction with Tanners Hill, on left hand side at end of village green. TL and continue on Tanners Hill, Old School Lane and Bushbury Lane to junction with Red Lane (J).    24km/15mi

TR and continue to Scammells Corner and bear right to junction with Blackbrook Road (C) to join route back into Dorking.    25km/15½mi
